I remember the pains that used to live in my stomach as I pulled myself from the steering wheel to enter the office of the many insurance companies that I have worked for around the country. Some of the claims positions that I held were nice because of the people I worked with. Some were nice only because of the pay. But they all prepared me for my current job as founder and CEO of DIJAH Communication.
The smell of a beautiful spring air always made it harder to work in a field that did not interest me at all. I enjoyed the communication with my customers but hated the daily work. I knew there had to be some other way to make a living. So I researched how to start a business. I read articles on wealth building. I even decided to increase my marketability in the insurance field to make more money, so I took career advancement courses. Failed them and realized I needed to evaluate who I was as a person and a businesswoman.
Yes I finally heard myself say business woman. And I realized that I was a business woman that wanted to control her own time and direction of business. I realized that I wanted to enjoy more spring air mornings without rushing to go indoors to an office doing something I don’t like. I realized I had skills and diligence that grew my employers business; so why not grow my own business.
So I found mentors and asked questions. The one thing that I realized was that in order to really find out what you need about a topic or field you must ask someone who has been successful at what you are seeking. So I did and I was told to only pursue a business in something that I had at least 10 years of experience. That is all I needed because I knew my skill set now to build a business.
I took an entrepreneurial crash course that taught and explained every aspect of starting a business and so I did. On the journey of starting my business the one thing I always took with me was the ability to ask those who are successful at what I want; How did you do it. You won’t know what you need until you ask someone who once needed it too. You will probably be surprised by the number of successful people that are eager to give advice. Just try asking! If you have a specific question, you have probably hit the jackpot with getting the correct answer from them .
